Christmas, Christmas time is here!

Warning: If you’re offended by the overcommercializtion of the celebration of baby Santa’s birth, you probably want to leave now…

It’s Decemeber! That time of year when it becomes socially acceptable to begin celebrating the holiday season! Personally, I like to get started November 1st, because I’m Canadian and we’re better able to just roll straight out of Halloween into Christmas, having gotten that pesky Thanksgiving out of the way in October. Also, it’s my personal belief that Christmas is awesome enough to totally fill up two months worth of celebrating.

Of course, I get that my level of committment to the season isn’t for everyone, particularly not those who are worried about the “commercialization of Christmas”. *Yawn* Yes, it is overcommercialized, but dude, it’s also the most beatiful, fun, and heartwarming time of year. I like to get as much out of it as humanly possible, simply ignoring the people who try to kill each other over $29.99 Blu-Ray players along the way.

For me, Christmas isn’t about great deals and endless mountains of presents, it is about the pretty lights and shiny decorations and cheery music and delightfully cheesey movies and snow and skating and fireplaces and hot cocoa and great meals shared with great friends and family. How can anyone not want to extend that whole kit and kaboodle into a two month long fiesta?!

Ok, truth time: Christmas is about all that, but it’s also about presents, there I said it.

I’m sorry, but I love, love, LOVE to give people presents! There is no greater feeling than getting someone the absolute most perfect gift that makes them all giddy because they can’t even believe you knew exactly what it was they wanted when they never even gave a hint of what that was. What can I say, I am an awesome gift-giver! And yes, more often than not, gift-giving involves giving my money to those horrible commercial giants. Sue me.
