Starting with my boys! They were on hiatus almost as long as I was, but they returned to us this Thursday past with an all new episode of semi-epic Winchester proportions. In Sam, Interrupted, Sam and Dean infiltrate a mental hospital (is that the PC term? Doubtful.) by pretending they are crazies (definitely not PC), which turns out to be super easy for them, as they only need to explain their “real life” situation in order to get admitted. Apparently being hunters of the supernatural who accidentally cause the apocalypse is unbelievable to those in the medical profession. Pfft.

The episode definitely had it’s funny moments (in a word, “PUDDING!”), but I have to say, and this is a hard one for me, folks, I was just a teeny, tiny bit disappointed. Gasp! Perhaps it was only down to waiting so long for a new episode – and a hearty, “Grrr,” to the CW for that one, btw – so I was too psyched up and nothing could’ve met my expectations? Or maybe it was because Castiel was only in it for like 2.5 seconds, and frankly, that is just not enough Cas to make up for our cold, two-month abandonment. But, also, I thought the wraith was a little lack-lustre, and the back-story of ex-huter Martin Creaser was too hastily dealt with.

That isn’t to say it was a terrible episode, by any means. I loved getting a little peak into the psyches of our boys, even if Sam’s was damn scary, and Dean’s was more than a little sad. It just wasn’t one of the best. And after the brain-melting awesomefest that was the previous episode (5.10, Abandon All Hope), I had hoped for better. I will continue to do so for this week. I have little fear I should be disappointed again.

In other news, during my long silence I met many a splendid geek milestone: I am finally a multi-console gamer, as I received a PS3 for Christmas (Arkham Asylum is every bit as kick-ass as I thought it would be); I finally watched every aired episode of Lost (LOVED it!) and now anxiously await Season 6; I finally started Battlestar Galactica and I am, of course, enjoying it thoroughly; annnnnd I got the New Super Mario Bros for Wii, which is a fan-damn-tastic mix of nostalgic fun meets rage-inducing difficulty. I hope to get to all these exciting topics in the near future, but I am presently looking for a job, so that hunt takes precedence over my extracurricular fangirling. Sad face.

Anywho, this afternoon I am sitting here all tucked up in my blankies – still feeling a little fluish, sad face – catching up on last night’s Big Bang Theory, when, lo! What’s this?! Sheldon is making himself a stack of Cylon toast with a fancy Battlestar Galactica toaster! Just like the one I told you about!!

Of course, the second thing that comes to mind, after *gasp!* “I blogged about something Sheldon now has in his kitchen!”, was, “How did he get one if he was at the North Pole during Comic-Con?”

No, seriously. How?

Anyway, when I was reliving my SDCC glory days with some friends last week, I brought up the amazing costumes I saw, and some of the members of my group didn’t know what Steampunk was. I found I had a little trouble explaining it, given that I have only been aware it existed for a couple months. So I was just trying to find some more stuff online in hopes that I would be better prepared the next time it came up in conversation, and I came across this:

You also know, then, that it has been bumped for sweeps all November, because Fox is a poopypants jerkface when it comes to outstanding television, and they’d apparently rather air reruns of shows I do not watch. And, I promise you this, I will continue to NOT be watching them in the absence of Dollhouse, Fox Broadcasting, I will not!

Anyway, rant over, here’s the Dollhouseless November plan: buy the DVDs, or download the episodes over a legitimate service like iTunes, and rewatch season 1 and the aired episodes of season 2. Invite your cooler friends over and get them caught up. Offer free food as a means to get them there if you have to, they will thank you in the end, and your reward will be a NOT canceled Dollhouse.

Anyway, the crux of this plan is to get three people hooked on what we already know is quality tv. Then, come December’s double Dollhouse days, we triple the ratings! Excuse me, my math is terrible.. that’s QUADRUPLE the ratings!

Ok, I’m obviously reaching for the stars here, but if you and everyone else who watches Dollhouse gets even one other person into it, that’s double the viewership, and that’s something Fox can’t say no to… or at least will make them pause before they throw it on the chopping block.

BUT it’s not bloody well over til the hot dolls in track pants sing! Obviously, we need to get their ratings up. First, tomorrow will be the last episode until December’s doubles, so for the love of Joss, WATCH IT! You can sit in one Friday night, I promise it won’t kill you. And what else would you watch, anyway? Ghost Whisperer? Guffaw!

Second, the People’s Choice Awards are holding online nominee voting – if that’s worded confusingly, what I mean is, you can pick from a bunch of shows (or actors, artists, etc, in other categories) to help the lovely folks at the PCAs narrow down their nominee lists. You have the option of writing in a nominee as well, but listen to this: You don’t even have to! Dollhouse is actually an option to choose under the Best Sci-Fi category! Woot woot!!

So, might I suggest, go there right now, and pick it! You get to pick 5, so it’s not even like I’m asking you to forgo nominating your actual favourite. For instance, I got to pick Supernatural AND Dollhouse! I’m over the moon!

What are you waiting for?! GO GO GO!!! Save my show! Before you have to listen to me rant and whine like I did with the Sarah Connor Chronicles!!

My tv shows have been riotous. Supernatural is so g-dang fantastic I can’t even begin a suitable review. Just watch it. Big Bang Theory is, of course, funny as ever. I’ve never really cared whether Penny and Leonard should get together or not, but it has made for interesting interactions between Sheldon and Penny. And goth-Wolowitz (Gothowitz, if you will) was actually pretty hot a few week back. Also, Dollhouse is heating up like nobody’s business, so I highly recommend getting in on it now before the season explodes and you have too much to catch up on!

In other news, the curling season has begun. That’s right, UberFanGirl is a curler! Not a very good one, but a curler nevertheless. I got some super sweet pink curling shoes and broom. Not going to lie, I feel that much more adorable when I curl with them.

And other than that, it’s same old, same old. School, work, schoolwork, and workschool. I am gutted about not having blogged in a while, but them’s the breaks when you’re a busy beaver such as I. I haven’t even seen Zombieland, if you can believe that! After MONTHS of waiting anxiously, wishing it would arrive sooner.. it finally does, and I aint got no time for it! Sad face.

I have noticed over the past little while a dramatic increase in Halloween costume-related searches that are returning my photos form Comic-Con. From the number of hits I’m getting, it looks like there will be a lot of Silk Spectre II’s out there this Halloween. And, actually, tonnes of Marty McFly’s and Doc Brown’s, too.

But my favourite has to be one of today’s search engine results: “Sheldon Doppler Shift”. I can only presume someone out there is looking for a pic of Sheldon in his Doppler Shift costume because they are thinking about doing that for Halloween, and I LOVE IT! I must insist, dear person whose search found my blog, if you come back, and you did in fact end up dressing in that costume, please, please, PLEASE post a link or pic to you in your costume! Pretty please!

So what’s Liquor Day? It’s a new Canadian holiday (says me), in celebration of the Trailer Park Boys, the date marking the occasion of their last return to Sunnyvale in Countdown to Liquor Day. For 10 years, Ricky, Bubbles, and Sexian.. err… Julian, made me and the rest of Canada laugh while they smoked dope, got drunk as fuck, and ate chicken fingers. A national holiday is the least we can give them in return.

Ok, for some ungodly reason, a lot of people I know (the less cool ones) don’t actually watch Trailer Park Boys. That should be a crime in itself, but at least they are just ignorant to what they’re missing out on. Worse than their stupidity – much worse – is all the people I don’t know who are online, on tv, and in newspapers, giving the second film by the Boys lame reviews. What is up with that?!

Allow me to say, for the record, right now, that Trailer Park Boys 2: Countdown to Liquor Day fucking kicked ass. Yes, the film followed a similar formula to the tv show. Yes, the jokes are all about getting stoned and drunk and being stupid. However, Mr Jay Stone of the Canwest News Service (that’s right, I’m naming names of lame reviewers, and I’m calling you out, Jay), this does NOT get old or tiresome. At all. In fact, it’s funnier than ever.

I guess I can accept that Jay just has no sense of humour. Certainly, he is not now, nor ever was, a fan of the show. If he was, he’d have said what I am about to. This film encapsulated everything I loved and will miss about the show: Bubbles’ kitties, Julian’s sexy black t-shirt, Ricky’s -isms, Bo-Bandy’s gut, and Lahey’s ability to single-handedly fuck everything up. Then we were given some new twists and treats, like Bubbles getting a date, J-Roc actually making it (you gotta wait for the credits for that one), and Julian working for Ricky for once.

Besides fanhearting all over my Boys, which I could do for ages, let’s get a little technical for a quick second or two. Dialogue, sound, photography.. all wins, as far as I’m concerned. Ok, I’m not a master of the craft, but I actually noticed the music and thought to myself how well it fit with the scenes (srsly!), and then I have always loved how they cut between the different kinds of cameras they use, integrating security footage or pretend hap-hazard running-with-the-camera shots. And dialogue, well, it’s a large amount of improv, and I doubt anyone could deny how good these guys are at it. Yeah, Jay doesn’t even mention any of those things in his review! Probably because he was too busy coming up with big, fancy, book-learning words like “unspoken and rather endearing piece of cultural anthropology”. It’s actually just a fucking rum and coke, buddy!

Would I have changed anything? Yes. I would have liked a little more face time with Lucy and Sarah because they kill me, and I still really miss Cory and Trevor! Real Trinity was there though (she wasn’t in the first film), and we get to see a bunch of other recurring characters, like Cyrus and former-officer George Green, in jail.

Bottom line: If you love the Boys, you will love this movie. Also, the last weekend in September shall henceforth be for celebrating Liquor Day in Canada, pass it on.
